4 Things to Use for Better Sleep at Home

4 Things to Use for Better Sleep at Home

In 2013, The Centers for Disease Control declared that lack of sleep is a public health epidemic. Since not sleeping well impacts your health, it only seems natural that people would do what they could to get better sleep. But that’s not what happened after the CDC made their announcement. The Better Sleep Council found that 48 percent of Americans know they aren’t getting enough sleep but still don’t do anything about it.

Don’t be part of the statistic. Here’s how you can get better sleep at home.

White Noise Machines

The National Sleep Foundation cites that noises ranging from 40 to 70 decibels can keep you awake at night. If noise is keeping you from getting good sleep at night, use a sleep conditioner or white noise machine. These gadgets are proven to help people sleep better because they muffle out distracting noise with sounds like gusty winds or rushing waters.

Marpac offers a variety of sleep conditioner machines that come with fully adjustable volume and tone control. Just turn it on and get ready for better sleep.

Sleep Tech Tools

There are dozens of sleep tracker apps available today, but none are as useful as “Sleep Genius,” which is compatible with Samsung’s Gear Fit and Gear 2. The sleep app program was developed by experts in neuroscience that worked with NASA astronauts, helping them sleep better. Smartphones with built-in health trackers, like the Samsung Galaxy S6, also can help you keep an eye on your sleep patterns and see where you need to improve.

Gradual Alarm Clocks

Your body is naturally controlled by circadian rhythms and the rotation of the Earth, but over the span of recent decades, people have been messing with these two naturally occurring phenomenons. How? With alarm clocks. These noisy alarm clocks can mess with your sleep patterns and have you feeling tired halfway through the day.

However, there’s an alternative alarm clock solution available today. If you have to wake up on a set schedule each day the Withings Aura Connected Alarm Clock is a solid alternative to traditional wake-up alarms. This gadget simulates a LED sunrise for a gradual wake up call and plays a set Spotify playlist to wake you up in the morning. The Aura also can help you get to sleep with features like optimized colors that promote sleep hormones and sound programs that are proven to induce sleep.

Amber-Colored Lenses

The last thing you should be doing before bed is watching TV, playing on a tablet or browsing online on your laptop. But we are all human and we all do stuff that’s not good for us (and our sleep). Devices like laptops, tablets, and TVs emit blue light, which interrupts your natural circadian rhythms and makes it hard to fall asleep at night.

However, some of these tech items now come with features that let you turn off the blue light. For those that don’t, there are amber-colored lenses you can buy. A study from the Journal of Biological and Medical Rhythm Research has shown that amber-colored lenses can block sleep-impacting blue light and improve sleep. You can get a pair of amber-colored lens glasses online from sites like Amazon for good prices.
