Digital news platform UrbanGeekz has sealed a partnership deal with media distributor Cision’s PR Newswire.
Under the deal, UrbanGeekz will publish its latest news updates to PR Newswire’s international, multimedia, and multiplatform audience. This includes an extensive global network of 3,000 newsrooms, with brands such as The New York Times, ABC News, BuzzFeed, and more.
“As a veteran multimedia journalist PR Newswire has been a go-to resource for my work over the years,” says UrbanGeekz founder and CEO Kunbi Tinuoye. “Now I’m so excited to partner with PR Newswire to amplify our work, extend our reach, and expand our audience.”
As part of the partnership, a curated PR Newswire news feed will be published daily on UrbanGeekz, giving users access to PR Newswire content without the need for subscription or membership.
“Cision is thrilled to be entering into a new partnership with UrbanGeekz,” said a Cision spokesperson. “Our partnership with UrbanGeekz helps expand our reach in the multicultural space. That reach directly nurtures our distribution network.”
The world’s largest multi-channel content distribution network, PR Newswire powers the stories of organizations around the world. Its network reaches more than 4,500 U.S. websites, including popular sites such as Yahoo! Finance, MarketWatch, and Business Journals. The partnership begins a new stage for UrbanGeekz, who, roughly half a decade after their founding, are looking to capitalize on the increasing digitalization of press and business innovation to expand their audience and increase visibility. Empowering minority-led startups and helping founders gain visibility and funding has been at the forefront of their mission since inception.
A recent partnership with Village Capital and Black Innovation Alliance and the appointment of founder Kunbi Tinuoye for the fourth year in a row to the CES 2021 Conference Advisory Board mark this commitment.
Launched in 2015, UrbanGeekz is the first-to-market tech blog focused on covering content from a Black & Latinx perspective. The groundbreaking videocentric multimedia platform covers technology, business, science, and startups. Its mission is to make tech ‘cool’ and accessible while highlighting business, entrepreneurship, and STEM-related fields as exciting and rewarding career paths, especially for women and underrepresented groups.
PR Newswire has 35 offices in 18 countries, including 10 in the United States. It serves tens of thousands of clients from offices in the Americas, Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Asia-Pacific regions.
In 2019, PR Newswire recognized UrbanGeekz as one of the Top 10 African-American news sites. “These are websites that produce out-of-this-world coverage in a crowded arena,” wrote PR Newswire at the time.
