Google has offiicially unveiled a new pair of handsets: the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro.
Both the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will be available for consumers from October 28. Prices for the Pixel 6 will start at $599, while the Pro will set you back $899.
The devices are jammed-packed with amazing new camera features, stellar battery life, and the best of Android. You can read all about the phone on Google’s blog — some highlights include:
Our amazing team managed to get our hands on a Google Pixel 6 before the official launch. One of the things we love about the device is the phone’s camera technology. On the back, there is a 50-megapixel main camera, 12MP ultra-wide camera, and a 48MP 4x optical zoom telephoto camera, plus an ultrawide 11.1MP selfie camera on the front.
All the cameras capture a stunning amount of detail and there’s an excellent balance of exposure.
Both Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro better capture darker skin tones. The imitative is part of a company-wide effort, called Real Tone, aimed at improving skin tone technology for Google’s camera and image products.
The company announced the move during its recent Google I/O annual developer conference. In a keynote address, Android VP Sameer Samat said the company is working with a diverse group of industry and imaging experts. These include leading photographers Micaiah Carter, Deun Ivory, and cinemaphotographer Kira Kelly.
Samat said the company is working with experts to tweak the algorithms and training data that power the Pixel camera to more accurately capture people of color.
“As a part of our ongoing commitment to product inclusion, we’re working to make technology more accessible and equitable,” said Annie Jean Baptiste, Head of Product Inclusion at Google, told UrbanGeekz in an interview earlier this year.
“To ensure our camera and imagery products work for everyone, we’ve partnered with industry experts to ensure that users of all skin tones feel accurately and beautifully seen. This is one step in an ongoing journey, and we look forward to sharing more on our progress later this year.”
The Google Pixel 6 Pro costs $899 with 128GB of storage, or £949 ($999/$A1,449) for 256GB.
