Here are some holiday seasons that are celebrated globally, along with their fascinating histories and what really happens during the celebrations of these holidays every year. 

Christmas Holiday

The Christmas holiday season is not just about relaxation; it is an exceptional moment when people come together, exchange gifts, and celebrate to mark the end of the year. In Christian societies, the celebration of Christmas is dedicated to the birth of Jesus Christ, which is on December 25 of every year, and sometimes people even extend the celebration to 28-29th December. Each continent has a way of celebrating this festive season. The most common way of celebration is the exchange of gifts and entertainment, which bonds people together in their community and workplaces.

New Year Holiday

The holiday season around New Year’s is one of the most widely celebrated globally. The reason behind this celebration is that people celebrate because they feel joyful and thankful for having the opportunity to see another year. This happens every January 1 and is described by most people as the twin of the Christmas celebrations. During this celebration, people exchange gifts, have fun, and entertain themselves, much like they do during Christmas holiday celebrations. 

Easter Holiday

Easter Holiday is one of the holiday season that bring joyous moments and smiles to people’s faces. This is because after Christmas and New Year, it is the next holiday on the calendar. This holiday is mainly celebrated in Christian societies, of which these three days, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, are dedicated to Christian-like conferences and conventions to remember the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Monday, after Sunday, is also part of the holiday season, during which games are held among different churches in the Christian fraternity to have fun, create connections, and help one another in the Christian faith.

Ramadan and Eid Holiday Celebration

The Ramadan and Eid celebrations are also observed globally, particularly by our colleagues and friends who belong to the Islamic Faith. Ramadan is a period of 30 days of fasting dedicated to praying to the creator for help, protection, and cleansing. After the 30 days of fasting, they celebrate Eid, which includes Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. During this celebration, they offer national prayers and share gifts with neighbors, friends, and loved ones. Eid al-Fitr is celebrated first, and some people refer to it as the smaller celebration. After that, they celebrate the larger one, which is Eid al-Adha.

International Workers Day

International Workers’ Day is one of the public holidays celebrated globally, which workers in various fields truly appreciate. The workers’ day holiday celebration dates to the 1800s, when workers protested to demand fair wages, a salary increase, and an eight-hour workday. On May 1, a strike spread across cities, in which a violent crash known as the Haymarket Affair occurred, killing some workers and police. To honor their demise, May 1 was declared a holiday, which is now observed in many countries.
