How to Build a More Reliable and Portable Tech Setup
January 20, 2026Zoe Saldaña just claimed Hollywood’s ultimate box-office crown as she is now the highest-grossing actor in cinema history. All her films have collectively earned $15.47 billion worldwide. That number surpasses every other actor on the planet.
The milestone came in January 2026 when “Avatar: Fire and Ash” crossed $1.2 billion globally. That pushed her past Scarlett Johansson’s previous record. Johansson’s career total sits at $15.40 billion.
Saldaña expressed gratitude in an Instagram video shortly after reaching the milestone. “I just want to express my sincerest gratitude for the extraordinary journey,” she said. She credited directors who trusted her vision.
Additionally, she thanked the franchises that gave her opportunities and acknowledged fans who consistently supported her work. The achievement caps an extraordinary 2025 for Saldaña. She won her first Academy Award in March for “Emilia Pérez“. She became the first Dominican American to win an Oscar. Then she made box office history months later. Few actors accomplish either feat in a lifetime.

Her billion-dollar franchise
Saldaña stars in three of the four highest-grossing films ever made. “Avatar” still holds the number one spot globally. “Avengers: Endgame” sits in second place. “Avatar: The Way of Water” claims third position. She appears prominently in all three blockbusters.

Her franchise work spans multiple universes and genres. She played Neytiri in James Cameron’s “Avatar” series. Moreover, she also portrayed Gamora across Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” trilogy. She embodied Lieutenant Nyota Uhura in J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek” reboot trilogy. Each franchise contributed significantly to her total.
The “Avatar” franchise alone will soon reach $7 billion worldwide. “Fire and Ash” added $1.25 billion to that total. Moreover, two more sequels are scheduled for 2029 and 2031. This means that Saldaña will still portray Neytiri in both films, and her total will likely climb even higher.
Her Marvel work began in 2014 with “Guardians of the Galaxy.” The film earned $773 million globally and launched a beloved trilogy. She appeared in “Guardians Vol. 2” and “Vol. 3” next. Then she joined the massive “Avengers” ensemble films. “Infinity War” and “Endgame” each crossed $2 billion easily.
Furthermore, the “Star Trek” trilogy contributed over $1 billion combined. She breathed new life into Uhura’s character, whilst J.J. Abrams gave the role depth and agency. Saldaña delivered performances that honored Nichelle Nichols’ original portrayal. She also made the character distinctly her own.
The Oscar-Winning Performance
The 2024 “Emilia Pérez” brought Saldaña her first Oscar nomination and win. She played Rita Mora Castro, a lawyer. The character helps a cartel leader transition genders. The role required singing and acting in Spanish.

The film faced significant controversy throughout awards season. Critics questioned its portrayal of Mexican culture. LGBTQ advocates criticized its trans representation. The backlash threatened to overshadow Saldaña’s performance. However, voters recognized her work regardless. She won the Golden Globe, BAFTA, SAG Award, and Critics’ Choice Award first. Then came the Oscar in March. She took the stage at the Dolby Theatre tearfully.
The numbers behind success
When including all films in which she appears, Saldaña’s total reaches $16.8 billion globally. That counts smaller supporting roles, too. But the more conservative figure of $15.47 billion only counts leading roles. Either number places her at the top.
After Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson sits in third place with $14.6 billion in box office earnings. He held the title for years. His Nick Fury appearances in Marvel films drove those numbers. Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Pratt round out the top five. Both benefited enormously from Marvel’s success. Downey’s Iron Man anchored the franchise for years. Pratt’s Star-Lord led the Guardians films. They also appeared in the massive Avengers crossovers.
The trajectory seems unstoppable currently. “Avatar 4” and “Avatar 5” will add billions more. Both films are already shot and in post-production. They’ll release in 2029 and 2031, respectively. Her total could approach $20 billion eventually.
