In a world of 3,428 billionaires, only 27 are Black.

Together, they hold a combined $121 billion in wealth, with fortunes spanning finance, manufacturing, technology, media, sports, and entertainment. The number has risen from 23 to 27 on the Forbes’ 2026 Billionaires list, pointing to slow but meaningful progress as more Black entrepreneurs, investors, and cultural power players break into the highest ranks of global wealth.

This increase is a sign of progress. More black entrepreneurs, creators, and investors are not only entering global markets but also building wealth on a large scale. This proves that the pathways to billion-dollar success are expanding.

New Additions and Returnees

Hip-hop mogul Dr. Dre is in the latest Forbes iteration. He has made billions from selling the Beats headphones business he co-founded with Jimmy Iovine to the tech giant Apple. Their business sold for more than 3 billion, and he is now venturing into cocktails with the spirits company Gin and Juice with Snoop Dogg.

“I’m always thinking forward,” Dre, who Forbes now estimates to be worth $1 billion, said in a 2024 interview with Stephen A. Smith. “I don’t live my life with a rearview mirror.”

New to the list is also the music icon, Beyoncé. She has joined the ranks with an estimated fortune of $1 billion. This is whilst her husband, the rapper and entrepreneur Jay-Z, continues to maintain his billionaire status, with a net worth of $2.8 billion since 2019.

Another notable addition is a group of lesser-known private equity leaders. Among them are David Grain of Grain Management, worth $2.3 billion, and Stefan Kaluzny of Sycamore Partners, valued at $1.3 billion. They are both recognized in the ForbesBLK 50. Additionally, Robert Johnson, co-founder of BET, has returned to billionaire status this year. He is a testament to the continued growth and resilience of Black wealth globally.

Leading the Pack

The Nigerian businessman Aliko Dangote remains the richest black person, with an estimated net worth of over $28.5 billion. He ranks as the 86th overall on the 2026 list. Across the board, a pattern is visible. That wealth is increasingly being built through ownership. From industrial empires to entertainment brands, these billionaires have moved beyond earning income. They now create and control assets that generate long-term value.

Why This Matters

Representation at this level influences who gets funded, which markets receive attention, and what success looks like globally.

For entrepreneurs across Africa and the diaspora, this growth is both proof and inspiration. New pathways are opening, and more leaders are demonstrating that billion-dollar success is achievable.

While the journey toward broader representation continues, the 2026 list shows that progress is happening. And the number of Black billionaires is rising steadily, one new name at a time
