Michael B. Jordan’s Breakthrough Performance Tops Oscars

Michael B. Jordan just became an Academy Award Winner this weekend. 

The Actor claimed Best Actor at the Sunday night’s 98th Oscars ceremony for his work in Sinners. This is Ryan Coogler’s genre-bending thriller in which Jordan plays two characters: Smoke and Stack.

They are twin brothers who are drawn to a dangerous underworld. It is the kind of performance that got people talking, indeed. This is because Jordan delivered two distinct performances that anchored the film’s emotional and dramatic core.

Michael B. Jordan’s Best Actor Oscar has made him join an exclusive club. Only five black actors have won this award in history. He is now along Jamie Foxx, Forest Whitaker, Denzel Washington, Will Smith, and Sidney Poitier, the first black winner for Lilies of the Field in 1964. “Thank you, everybody in this room and everybody at home for supporting me over my career. I feel it. I know you guys want me to do well, and I want to do that because you guys bet on me,” Jordan said in an emotional speech. 

In this year’s Best Actor category, Jordan was up against an impressive list of stars, including former winner Leonardo DiCaprio for One Battle After Another, Wagner Moura for The Secret Agent, and a pair of three-time acting nominees, Ethan Hawke for Blue Moon and Timothée Chalamet for Marty Supreme.
