Atlanta Ranked No. 1 U.S. City for Hybrid Work

Atlanta has been ranked the top city in the U.S. for hybrid work, beating more than 200 metro areas evaluated.

Hubble, a flexible workplace platform owned by real estate software company Yardi, conducted the new study. Atlanta finished first, ahead of St. Louis in second place and Pittsburgh in third.

Although return-to-office mandates continue to make headlines, national office attendance remains just above half of pre-pandemic levels. Hubble’s study set out to identify which cities are best equipped for a reality where employees split their week between home, the office, and third spaces.

The Methodology 

Hubble scored every U.S. city with a population above 100,000 on 20 hybrid work-related metrics. They were grouped into five categories: workspace access, commute and mobility, labor market strength, quality of life, and cost of living. Each category’s weight reflects how much it shapes a realistic hybrid workweek.

Why Atlanta Came Out on Top 

Atlanta was ranked so highly because the city truly has the infrastructure to support hybrid workers. Within the metropolitan area, Atlanta posted a co-working density of 41.7 spaces per 100,000 residents. This is the highest of any American city in the study. Monthly co-working memberships average just under $200, well below the national median of $220, making flexible space both plentiful and affordable. 

The labor market also reflects this reality. Roughly a quarter of Atlanta residents have flexible work arrangements. The Atlanta Regional Commission’s Regional Commuter Survey found telework levels among metro workers remained strong. The city also logged 470 hybrid job listings per 100,000 residents. 

Overall living costs in Atlanta sit right at the national average. On the regional price parity score, 100 represents the national average, and Atlanta scored 100.1, proving that.

The Co-Working Scene Powering Atlanta 

Several communities are at the forefront of Atlanta’s co-working ecosystem. The Gathering Spot and the Russell Innovation Center for Entrepreneurship have built their collectives around Black business ownership. Meanwhile, Atlanta Tech Village anchors the city’s startup and venture scene. Switchyards Downtown and The Lola also contribute to a growing map of neighborhood-level spaces giving hybrid workers options closer to home.

With co-working subscriptions below the national average, an affordable cost of living, and flexible jobs available, Atlanta has bagged the number one spot on the list. Years of investment into co-working spaces built the infrastructure, and now the city is finally being recognized for it.
