I know that you’ve clicked on this article because you’re interested in a business secret. Communication is one of the most important parts of a successful company. The way you communicate with everyone is essential. By everyone, I’m talking about your employees, your customers, your peers, etc.

To illustrate my point, imagine a business without any communication. How will you generate leads? How will you get your points across to your employees? Nothing would work, and this happens when a business has poor communication skills too. Good communication can improve so many aspects of your company. It can boost employee productivity, improve customer relations, and help grow your business too.

So, how can your business improve its communication skills, and see these benefits? I’ve split things into three sections to make life easier for you. Below, there are tips to help improve employee, customer, and peer communication:

Employee Communication

A business must have good employee communication to increase its output. When your staff communicates effectively, what does it mean? It means everyone is on the same page, and they know what they have to do.

To improve staff communication, you need a few things. Firstly, supply everyone with work phones. These are phones they should only use for work purposes. What this does is guarantee that everyone can be contacted at all times. When their work phone goes off, they know it’s business related. Secondly, create a group chat on an instant messaging service like Whatsapp. This allows your team to communicate as a group and bounce around ideas wherever they may be.

Finally, you need to set up an intranet for your business. This is where you can create something that’s basically social media. The difference is, only your employees can access it. It allows for easy communication, particularly between different departments or people working from home. The key to good employee communication is keeping everyone connected with one another.

Customer Communication

Communicating with your customers is imperative for business success. As I said earlier, it will help improve your relationship with customers. A business that communicates properly will be seen as having good customer service. So, how can you improve your communication methods?

To start, turn your attention to the internet. There are plenty of digital technologies that can help you improve communication. You can find software companies that allow you to create things called a customer portal. This is a place where you can communicate and collaborate with customers/clients. Some even come with a group chat feature, making communication so much easier. Software like this allows you to speak to customers directly. And, you can share files and make them feel more involved in your business. You should also use classic digital technology like emails. Emails are such an easy and fluid way to communicate with your customers. Plus, it also opens the door for email marketing too. Similarly, social media is a brilliant way of communicating with customers, instantly. They can message you with any queries, and you can respond straight away.

Secondly, it’s vital you have many channels of communication open to your customers. So, don’t get stuck thinking digital communication is all you need. You must have various telephone numbers that they can contact at all times. 24/7 customer service is essential. Likewise, don’t forget about proper old fashioned postal communication. Supply an address that people can send letters to if they wish to communicate that way. My point is, the key to customer communication is catering to everyone.

Peer Communication

Communicating with your peers is important if you want to grow your business. Networking is an easy way to gain new contacts and generate new leads. Plus, you can get insider information from people within your industry. All of this is only possible with proper communication.

For effective peer communication, you have to think professionally. Everything should be kept private, rather than out in the open. This rules out communicating on public social media sites, unless, you use LinkedIn. This site allows you to create professional business accounts. It makes it easier to find peers, and communicate via private messages.

I’d also argue that email is a great way to improve peer communication. I find this to be a more formal method of communicating with someone. There’s a big chance you’ll have to contact peers that you aren’t on a first-name basis with. So, it would be strange to send them a text or give them a call. Emailing them keeps things formal, and you can take things from there.

Improve these three areas of communication, and your business will see the benefits. Now, you know a big business secret, and can drive your company forward!
