Can you feel it? The chill in the air. The nights are drawing in and the days are getting shorter every day. The days of sunbathing, bikini bods and cold drinks in the backyard are over for another year. Never fear though because that means the cozy months are finally upon us! As winter approaches there’s no better way to spend your time than catching up on the shows your friends have been hassling you to watch for months. We’re sure your ‘to watch’ list is as long as ours so here are a few shows you’re going to want to catch up on this winter.
Winter is coming. And what better way to spend it than by taking a trip to Westeros in HBO’s sprawling fantasy adventure. Filled with fantastic writing, incredible production values and great acting. Game of Thrones will make you care as much about the politics of its world as the swords and sorcery. If you’re sick of avoiding spoilers and missing out on the excited conversation of friends and co-workers, now’s your chance. Just a warning: be careful about getting too attached to characters. Game of Thrones bumps them off with reckless abandon
This biker themed crime drama flew under a lot of people’s radar during it’s run from 2008 to 2014. And that’s a real shame because Sons of Anarchy is tightly plotted, action pack and filled with great performances. Telling the story of Jax Teller and his relationship with his father’s motorcycle gang, the titular ‘Sons of Anarchy’. The show stayed consistently strong throughout its six-year run and with a spin-off series in the works, now is the time to get into it.
Another one that far too few people watched when it came out. Sense8 is a strange sprawling sci-fi adventure from The Wachowskis, creators of The Matrix. Telling the story of eight individuals who find themselves inextricably linked together by a psychic connection. Film on location in nine different cities, Sense8 has enough scope and intrigue to draw you in and get you hooked. It might seem a little confusing and convoluted at first, but stick with it, and the whole thing comes together in a fabulously satisfying way. This show feels like it’s designed specifically to be binge-watched in a single sitting. Well, maybe two sittings. Some of us have to sleep after all.
Haven’t you watched Breaking Bad yet? What are you doing reading this? Just watch Breaking Bad. Seriously. It’s one of the greatest pieces of television ever created. Vince Gilligan’s morality tale of a high school chemistry teacher turned meth dealer manages to keep you on the edge of your seat for six seasons. Brian Cranston’s central performances are something to behold, and the rest of the cast bring just as much to the table. This is one you’ll want to go into spoiler free too. Getting sucked into all the twists and turns of Walter White’s story is something that needs to be experienced first hand.
