Trailblazing Doctor Spearheads CBD Line to Relieve Pain and Stress

Dr. Kirsten Shepard Ahmed is at the helm of a pioneering CBD product line that is transforming lives.

Her hemp-derived offerings are proving to be a lifesaver for individuals suffering from a variety of ailments. We are talking about everything from anxiety, chronic pain, inflammation, cognitive disorders, sports recovery, and more.

Launched in 2018, Dr. Shepard Ahmed, LMT, DC says her company Pain Stopper’s Inc. promotes whole-body wellness. The triple-lab certified Cannabinoid or CBD line comprises creams, ointments, and other topical products. Shepard also has a global patent pending on one of her “higher strength” solutions.

Shepard Ahmed says this holistic approach is scientifically proven to be a viable alternative to pharmaceutical drugs and more invasive procedures. “As a chiropractor and massage therapist throughout the years I’ve worked with different types of patients, from athletes, seniors, pediatrics, and everything in between,” says the Texas-based founder and holistic doctor.

“One of the things we always want to address is the entire patient. I feel like our healthcare system compartmentalizes care so much. Our goal was to help patients heal without using drugs or surgery. We don’t want to fix issues temporarily we want to restore the function.”

“Something that frustrates me as a provider is how our healthcare system continues to medicate neuromusculoskeletal issues. If the average individual goes to the doctor complaining about back, joint, or muscle pain the normal protocol is to prescribe pain meds. It’s sad because there are natural remedies to help those issues.”

Dr. Gregory Davis, MD, medical director of Pain Stopper’s, agrees.

“Essentially, I noticed a lack of any comprehensive or preventative care plan for arthritis sufferers,” he explains. “Therefore, joint replacement surgery appeared to be the only option beyond pain medications for these people—at least the only option offered to most patients.”

Dad’s Chemo Challenges Inspire Launch

CBD is a non-psychoactive substance found in the cannabis plant. What makes it so attractive, say proponents, is its effectiveness. — all without the unwelcome side effects of conventional drugs. One survey, for example, found that 42 percent of CBD users say they use it instead of “traditional” medications.

Pain Stopper’s Inc. serves both business-to-consumer (B2C) and business-to-business (B2B) customers.

“We offer our products B2C via our website. However, primarily we work with Pain Stopper’s approved facilities that fulfill certain criteria. Not only do we stand behind our product and the ingredients that are in there, but we also want other healthcare professionals to utilize our professional-grade products in their practices.”

Shepard’s journey to entrepreneurship is deeply personal. She witnessed firsthand the damaging effects of chemotherapy and radiation when her beloved father Luke Shepard was diagnosed with Mesothelioma.

As her father’s condition deteriorated, Shepherd was desperate to provide him with relief. She started applying CBD products with different bases to his skin. Although he eventually passed, the treatments “improved his symptoms, provided my dad with tremendous relief, and helped with his quality of life” during his final days.

“This all started because of the side effects my father experienced. I wanted to help him through his nausea and vomiting. The more I researched, the more I discovered what the endocannabinoid system could do and how compassionate it was with some of the testimonies and research that was out there. I started testing things with him. It just opened my eyes and gave him relief. That’s kind of how the Pain Stopper’s hemp line was born.”

Impressive Track Record In Health & Wellness

In fact, Shepard Ahmed has a track record of success in the health and wellness industry. Licensed in California and Texas, for over a decade she has operated a private practice in Austin, Texas, with a satellite office in nearby Killeen, Texas. The popular multidisciplinary medical center – Longevity Wellness Group – offers everything from acupuncture, natural medicine, chiropractic treatments, and massage therapy.

“One of the things we always want to address is the entire patient. I feel like our healthcare system compartmentalizes care so much. Our goal was to help patients heal without using drugs or surgery. We don’t want to fix issues temporarily we want to restore the function.”

Shepard is one of a few black women forging ahead in the multi-billion dollar cannabis industry. Varies studies and anecdotal evidence suggests black folks as a whole are being left behind in this lucrative and rapidly growing sector.

In a pointed criticism of the healthcare system, she adds, “it doesn’t have to make sense as long as it makes dollars. Sick care pays. We want to fix the issue as opposed to putting a band-aid on the issue.”

Indeed, Shepard’s work has been widely applauded. She was featured in Austin Fit Magazine as one of the top female providers, she has graced the cover of Ujama Magazine, been recognized as a Profile of Prominence in Health Professions by the Texas legislature, and received a Special Congressional Recognition from a Texas United States Senator.

CBD Is Cannabis That Won’t Get You High

Pain Stopper’s has an ambitious roadmap. “In the B2C market, I could see Pain Stopper’s in places like Whole Foods. We’d also like to see our brand in certified clinics across the globe, which are helping people with neuromusculoskeletal issues. Athletes get the best care in the world. I feel like everyone should be treated as an athlete.”

“It’s not just about having products everywhere, it’s about changing the dynamics of how we treat certain conditions and preventing someone from having surgery later on or being addicted to some kind of pain medication.”

As a socially conscious entity, the company also donates a portion of profits to organizations such as the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation and the Children’s Services Society of Utah. These nonprofits support victims of the Opioid epidemic and their loved ones—a cause that resonates with us on a personal level.

“If you look at the long-term effects of Opioids, you can be addicted to it, it affects other organ systems. You don’t have these types of negative effects with CBD.”

Shepard is one of a few black women forging ahead in the multi-billion dollar cannabis industry. Varies studies and anecdotal evidence suggests black folks as a whole are being left behind in this lucrative and rapidly growing sector. And while CBD contains low (0.3%) or no tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) — the stuff that gets users high – there’s always been racial disparity associated with marijuana.

“One of my concerns as a person of color is there are not a lot of us in this spectrum. But I’m determined to make a mark in the global CBD market.”
