Black Media Honors

Black Media Honors has recognised ALIVE Podcast Network’s Angel N. Livas as Innovator of the Year.

Back in 2021, Empower Media Group brought us the inaugural season of Black Media Honors. Now in its third year, the award season celebrates trail blazers from broadcasting, journalism, public relations, media and mass communications.

CEO of Empower Media Company and Founder of Black Media Honours Stephanie Davis says “The vision of the Black Media Honors is to recognize the trailblazers in African American Media and other American minorities who have paved the way for the broadcasting, public relations, media, mass communication, journalism professionals of today.”

Kicking off the 2023 weekend with a star-studded gala, major influencers in the media industry gathered in Georgia for a ceremony hosted by actress Brely Evans and radio personality Willie Moore Jr.

Some of this year’s honorees include Pinky Cole, sports commentator Stephen A. Smith, ALIVE Podcast Network founder Angel N. Livas, and Black Enterprise’s own Alfred Edmond Jr.

Starting his journey over 30 years ago, Edmond says he is proud to receive this prestigious honor. “I’m happy that the Black Media Honors is recognizing the importance of Black media in all its forms,” Edmond says.

Recipient of the Innovator of the Year award, Angel N. Livas has produced many award-winning programs over the past two decades, and been the visionary behind iconic hosts such as Larry King and Jane Pauley.

Founder of nonprofit The Woman Behind the Bussiness and host of “The Woman Behind the Business” talk show, Livas has over 20 years of experience in the media and entertainment industry.

Livas has now moved into the podcasting sphere with her Podcast Network ALIVE. The first audio podcast program owned by a black founders to offer programming across major networks, ALIVE redefines what podcasting looks like.

“I’m a storyteller at heart, and I feel like everything that I do is always to help people live their best lives, which is essentially why the podcast network is called ALIVE,” said Livas. “We’re actually challenging people to not only live but to be alive, to be passionate about the work that you’re doing to be able to do it with purpose integrity.”

In its first year alone, ALIVE won nominations for the prestigious NAACP Image Award and received the accolade of Communicator Excellence Award. Focused around featuring podcasters who want to impart change, spark innovation and inspire listeners, ALIVE’s network of podcasts are resonating and enriching listener’s experience.

The award-winning network helps creatives monetize through their listener supported subscription model. “Our goal at ALIVE is to help stimulate the black creative economy, while amplifying black voices” says Angel. “Being named The Innovator of The Year is a true honor and serves as a reminder for me to keep building until the world knows our name…The ALIVE Podcast Network.”
