BIA Partners with Bahamas

The Black Innovation Alliance (BIA), a coalition of organizations supporting 300,000+ entrepreneurs, innovators and creatives, has announced a partnership with the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, Investments and Aviation to aid in the creation of an innovator support ecosystem in the Bahamas. The partnership will include the development of initiatives and programs that will drive Tech Tourism, Sustainable Tourism, resilience and much-needed investment toward hospitality & climate technology innovation.

To remain competitive in the global tourism market and ensure the successful development of its people through diversification as well as adjusting to global trends, The Bahamas must continuously provide exceptional guest experiences that meet the evolving expectations of modern travelers while also innovating on climate science and solutions for flood risk management. In addition to tourism, financial services is the second most important driver of the economy, accounting for 15 percent of GDP.

“This partnership will future-proof the Bahamas. The island nation set record tourism levels in 2023, with 7.2 million arrivals so far, expected to reach 8 million visitors at the end of December. The small businesses, entrepreneurs, and founders of the island are a large part of what make it such a unique and special destination. In the age of digital transformation, it’s increasingly important to infuse technology and innovation into our economies to ensure their long-term competitiveness and sustainability,” said Kelly Burton, CEO of the Black Innovation Alliance. “We’re excited to partner with the Bahamas to develop the elements needed to nurture and grow an entrepreneurial ecosystem that makes the art and science of building a business attainable to all Bahamians.”

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investment and Aviation Hon. I. Chester Cooper applauded the partnership, stating “One of our missions as the government of The Bahamas is to provide Bahamian innovators and creatives with world class expertise and opportunities to establish best practice. We are excited about this partnership and what it holds for the future and our people.”

Minister for Grand Bahama the Hon. Ginger Moxey, who heads the Cabinet sub-committee for Innovate242 said, “We are excited to include Black Innovation Alliance as one of our partners in Innovate242, with a focus on climate change, sustainable development and tech tourism. We look forward to creating tech solutions through capacity building, ecosystem research, innovation challenges, and global trade opportunities for Bahamian entrepreneurs.”

Innovation242 is a government of The Bahamas initiative, created to establish the Bahamas and the Center of Innovation for the Caribbean.
