July 2, 2026Osasere Okundaye has become Nigeria’s youngest chartered accountant at the age of 16, breaking the previous national record.
She hit this milestone by passing the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) exam, a certification for university graduates and professionals.
The teenager’s achievement surpasses the record set in 2022 by Jonathan Adewale, who became the youngest chartered accountant at age 17.
An Academic Feat Driven By Excellence
The feat has drawn widespread praise from the Nigerian Federal Government, with the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, describing Okundaye’s success as a testament to hard work, discipline, and the limitless potential of Nigerian youth.

In a statement released on Monday, Olawande described the achievement as a powerful demonstration of hard work, discipline, and a genuine commitment to excellence.
“I heartily congratulate Miss Osasere Okundaye on her outstanding achievement of becoming Nigeria’s youngest Chartered Accountant at just 16 years of age,” he said. “This remarkable milestone is a testament to the power of hard work, discipline, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.”
The minister said Okundaye had set a standard that every young Nigerian should look to, and that her story was proof of what becomes possible with the right mindset and the right support around you.
“Osasere has distinguished herself as a shining example of the limitless potential of Nigerian youth,” he added. “Her accomplishment reminds us that with determination, dedication, and the right support, young Nigerians can break barriers, set new records, and inspire a generation to dream bigger.”
Olawande also took a moment to acknowledge the people who stood behind the teenager throughout the journey. “I congratulate her parents, family, teachers, mentors, and everyone who supported and guided her along the way,” he said. “Their encouragement, sacrifices, and belief in her abilities have without doubt contributed to this exceptional success.”
Nigerian Government’s Commitment to Youth Development
He reaffirmed the Federal Ministry of Youth Development’s commitment to creating programs and policies that help young Nigerians discover and fulfill their potential, adding that Okundaye’s achievement strengthened his confidence in the generation coming up.
“Osasere’s achievement reinforces our confidence that the future of Nigeria is bright in the hands of focused, determined, and talented young citizens,” he said.

Okundaye earned the qualification through the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, making her the youngest person in the country’s history to pass its professional examinations. Her achievement breaks the record previously held by Jonathan Adewale, who became Nigeria’s youngest chartered accountant in 2022 at 17.
The ICAN qualification is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most demanding professional certifications, typically requiring years of study and examination for graduates and working professionals to complete.
