Can you trust your employees? It’s a question that no business owner wants to be asked. If they respond with a confident “yes” then they’ll be mentally crushed when they find out that an employee has been stealing from the company. If they reply “no” then it shows a lack of faith in their employees. Although it’s healthy to keep your mind sharp to prepare for potential betrayals, there has to be trust between both the employer and employees or else the business cannot function smoothly.

Fraud and Theft

Small businesses are prone to losing millions of dollars each year because of theft. There are dozens of different types of fraud that can be committed, and sadly much of it comes down to the employees who want to squeeze extra cash from your company. These people should not be given a second chance unless it was done by accident, and even then an “accident” should raise a red flag and make you suspicious of that employer’s actions in the future.

The best way to monitor for fraud and theft is to keep a track of all your expenses and profits. That means recording every penny that comes in or goes out even if it’s paperwork, and you need to be vigilant when it comes to tracking down abnormal mistakes in your books. If you notice even small amounts of money being off or digits being rounded when they shouldn’t be, then it’s a red flag that you need to investigate.

Even if you’re a small company that doesn’t mean you can’t afford to hire an auditing service to investigate the issues. Internal Audit Service Providers are essential for maintaining an honest workplace that’s free from fraud and theft. Not only will it help you locate the source of problems at your office, but it will also allow you to see who in your office doesn’t deserve your trust and should be fired. Monitor your employees, manage your finances and stop your workers from potentially destroying your business due to their misuse of your resources.

Workplace Relations

Gossiping can be an incredibly demoralizing sight to see. Watching two members of staff whispering to each other as they eye up another staff member is a sign that they’re up to no good. Whether it’s discrimination or any kind or workplace bullying, you or your HR department need to step in and keep the workplace orderly before it turns rowdy. Fights should never break out in the workplace, banter should be kept to a minimum while working and no one should feel threatened or mentally uncomfortable at work.
Keep an eye out for lazy employees who are both unreliable and procrastinate often. If you see them twiddling their thumbs or spinning in their chair while everyone else is working, then they’ve either finished their work before everyone else or they’re simply buying time and not actually working. Take these people aside and ask them kindly why they aren’t working. If they can’t come up with a satisfactory answer, then it’s probably time to fire that person and replace them with someone worth your time and money.
