5 Tips for Staying Healthy When Working at Home

In many ways, a freelance career is a perfect option for college students. When you are struggling with a hectic class schedule and working towards set assignment deadlines and taking exams, the last thing that you will need is to deal with having to book time off work or constantly change your shifts to stay up to date with a changing college timetable. For many students, working from home is the perfect solution as it allows them to take charge of when they work and how much work they do, whilst being their own boss and not having to worry about asking permission for time off to do important college work. However, balancing a freelance career with studying for a degree is not always easy. Here are some top tips to help you do it well.

Tip #1. Study Online

If you are serious about your freelance career, then you might find that going to class can sometimes get in the way. When working as a freelancer, your whole income can often ride on whether you are able to meet client demands, which may not always be possible if you have an important class that clashes with their required deadline for your work, for example. On the other hand, studying online gives you more freedom and flexibility and will allow you to work your studies around your freelance jobs, so that you can take on more clients and earn more money. Online degree programs have become hugely popular; you can find several options from undergraduate business degrees to online doctoral nursing programs.

Tip #2. Work Part-Time

Whilst getting a part-time job might seem counterproductive to those who want to earn their living from freelancing whilst at college, it can help to alleviate some of the financial worries that are often all part and parcel of being a freelancer. As you embark on your freelance career, you will soon find out that it is not always stable; you will rely solely on your clients needing work, which may not happen every day. As a freelancer and a student, not knowing where your next paycheck is coming from or how much it is going to be can be incredibly stressful. Taking up a weekend job, for example, where you can work a shift at a local store or wait tables in a restaurant can help to give you more financial stability, whilst allowing you to get out of the house for a change.

Tip #3. Plan in Advance

When it comes to successfully juggling a college degree and a freelance career, planning is absolutely crucial. If you’re studying for your BN to DNP online, then you should work out a study schedule that works well for you, considering the regular work that you will also need to do for your freelance clients to ensure that everything is done on time. It’s also a good idea to speak to your clients and let them know your situation; this way you will be able to work together to come up with a suitable solution for when you have extra college work to do, for example, when you are studying for finals.
